JOHN G. STARCEVICH

Grave marker of John G. Starcevich in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Farmington (Fulton county), Illinois.

John enlisted in the Army at Indianapolis, IN on 16 January 1943.

On 29 October 1943, Pvt Starcevich was transferred from the Parachute School, Fort Benning, GA to Company D, 508th PIR.

Pvt Starcevich was appointed to the grade of Pfc on 29 February 1944 and then to T/5 on 1 August 1944.

On 17 September 1944, T/5 Starcevich was wounded while in an aircraft heading for Drop Zone "T' in Holland.  Fellow stick-member, Frank Staples, said: "Starcevich was standing right beside me. He got his two fingers and thumb shot off in the plane. He didn’t jump."

Upon returning to England, John was transferred to the 348thth Station Hospital.  Still hospitalized, T/5 Starcevich was transferred to the hospital's Detachment of Patients on 18 December 1944.

He was discharged from the Army on 19 January 1945.
