SAMUEL F. "SHORTY"

   Age 70, of Jonestown, PA formerly of Pittsburgh, on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at The Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was born on Aug. 18, 1932 in Sharpsburg, MD, the son of the late David and Margaret Hebb Starleper. Husband of the late Joy I. Arbuckle Starleper; father of Scott F. (wife-Jessica) Starleper of Lebanon, Tammy J. Derflinger of Keedysville, MD and Jill A. (husband-Shane) Ditzler of Jonestown, PA; brother of Wesley Starleper of Hagerstown, MD and Frances Norris of Sharpsburg, MD, and the late David, James and Robert Starleper; also 7 grandchildren. Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 pm at STRAUSS-KREAMER & LUM FUNERAL HOME, 48 W. Market St., Jonestown, PA (717) 865-5215, where a Funeral Service will be held on Wed. at 11:30am. Interment Indian-town Gap National Cemetery, friends and relatives are invited. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Heart Assn., P. O. Box 1263, Lebanon, PA. 17042.

Samuel enlisted in the Army on 1 February 1951 and completed his basic training at Camp Atterbury before being sent to following jump school.

He was initially assigned to Company A, 325th Regiment,1st Airborne Battalion at Fort Bragg before being transferred to the 508th ARCT.

He served with the 58th until his discharge in 1954.
