Mr. George Stathis, Restaurateur,
Veteran of
World War II, 44
George Stathis, 44, vice president and
general manager of the Seaford Restaurant, 3 Henry St., and head of the Warren Lobster House in
Kittery, Maine, which he operated during the Summer months, died of heart attack in Maine last Thursday.
. Hp was a native of (Greece and Greece after the occupation that country
by the Germans.
In n1944 Mr. Stathis, then a corporal. was mentioned In a United Press dispatch
by war correspondent Clinton B. Conger as the man who served an interpreter between the British Commandos and the villagers on the
Greek Island of Kythera when it was Invaded earlier that year. Through the explanations made
by Corp. Stathis the villagers warmly received the British Commandos.
.At the close of the war, Mr. Stathis renewed his association with the
Seaford Restaurant here and later became interested in the Kittery Lobster
House. He was also an executive with the Bordentown Grill, Bordentown,
NJ and was a director of peninsula Navigation Co, and a member of the Greek Society Athena,
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriet Stathis; two sons, John and
Nicholas George; a well as four brothers and two sisters in Greece.
Funeral services were held Monday at St. Constantine's Greek Orthodox
Church, 64 Schermerhorn St.. Burial was in Ml. Olivet Cemetery.

KITTERY ---George Stathis,
44, of 3 Water St., manager of Warren's Lobster House, died unexpectedly at
his home yesterday.
Mr. Stathis had been a resident here for the past six months,
moving here to assume his duties at the lobster house.
Born in Alarcadus, Greece, Jan. 16, 1910, the son of John and
Antonia Stathis, he was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife and two sons.
