ROY E. STELZER

MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP - Roy E. Stelzer, 71, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at Mifflin Care Center after a long illness.
   Roy was born December 30, 1932, in Mansfield and lived in the area all of his life. He was the son of the late Glenn Stelzer and Myrtle Stone Powley.
   Roy was employed with Empire Detroit Steel for 29 years, retiring in 1992.
   He served in The United States Army at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 16, United Steel Workers Local 169, 82nd Airborne Division Association, Mifflin Township Volunteer Fire Department for 19 and serving as Chief for 8 years.
   Roy enjoyed traveling, deep sea fishing, and wintered in Florida.
   In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence, Harold, Robert and Donald; son-in-law, Randall Melde; and grandson, Kevin Stelzer. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Dolores M. Stelzer, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sara Stelzer of Mansfield; daughters and son-in-law, Kay Thompson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Carol and Roy Dean of Galion; grandchildren, Kristen, Danny, James, Lindsey and Matthew; great-grandson, Tyler; sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and John Parker of Butler, and many nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services celebrating Roy's life will be Friday, 11 a.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church with the Reverend Bonnie Peltomaa officiating. Burial will be at Mansfield Cemetery. Friends may call at Finefrock-Williams Funeral Home, 350 Marion Ave., Thursday, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Timothy Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 1262 Ashland Road, Mansfield 44905.

Roy enlisted in the Army on 28 February 1951 and served in the 508th.  He was discharged on 27 February 1954.
