FLOYD L. STEPHENS

Grave markers for Floyd L. Stephens in the Worthington Cemetery, Worthington (Greene county), Indiana.

Floyd enlisted in the Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN on 14 February 1942 and was assigned to Company I, 508th PIR.

Pfc Stephens was listed as missing in action on 8 June 1944 but was found to have been wounded on 10 June 1944 and probably had been in an aid station.  He returned to his company.

Cpl Stephens was wounded on 23 September 1944.  He was transferred to the 99th General Hospital in Reims, France on 26 December 1944.  He returned to the company until 10 January 1945 and was transferred to Service Company for light duty and further recuperation.

Floyd remained in the Army with service during Korea and Vietnam as well.  He retired as a Sergeant Major.

His military awards include the Purple Heart with 1 OLC and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in Normandy assault.
