EVERETT V. STITT

Grave marker for Everett V. Stitt in the Evergreen Cemetery, Erwin (Unicoi county), Tennessee..

Everett enlisted in the Army on 21 Jan 1942 and volunteered for parachutist duty.

After completion of training he was shipped to Hq 82nd AB Div Leicester, England.  T3 Stitt was transferred to Service Company 508th on 6 November 1944 and then to Hq Hq 2 months later.

Although the timing of events caused him to miss seeing action in France and Holland, he was sent into combat in Belgium and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge on 10 March 1945 for action during the campaign, 18 Dec 1944 to 20 Feb 1945.

SSgt Stitt was listed as a passenger on the SS General William M Black which left Le Havre, France on 4/13/1945 and arrived New York City on 18 April 1945  He was a patient with injury listed as "Scar, painful, heel right".  The cause and circumstance of the injury are unknown.
