100th Airborne To Be Activated By
Saturday
All units of Kentucky's 100th Airborne
Division will be activated by Saturday, and composite groups of reserve
officers now are being organized throughout the state. Col. George V.
Millett, who will be stationed in Louisville, is acting senior instructor
for Kentucky and senior instructor for the division.
Assignment Listed
Assisting Colonel Millett here will be Col. Francis E. Kempf, Lt.
Col. P. R. Monroe. Lt. Col. Frank H. Poehlman, and Capt. George I.

In
April 1948, George and fiancé Shirley Tonne applied for a license to marry in Wayne County Indiana.

George I Stoeckert enlisted in the Army as
a Private in New York City, NY on 15 November 1943.
By 7 July 1942 Pvt Stoeckert had been
promoted to the grade of Corporal when he was discharged to accept a
commission as 2nd Lieutenant the following day. He attained the rank
of 1st Lieutenant on 17 December 1943.
On 19 July 1944 1st Lt Stoeckert was
transferred from the 507th PIR to Hq 1st, 508th PIR.
He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal on 17
February 1945 for Meritorious Service as a Mortar Platoon Leader. |
Grave
marker for George i. Stoeckert in Section 35 , Grave 4427, Arlington Cemetery,
Arlington, Virginia.
Although George passed away on 11 November 2016,
backlogged demands at Arlington delayed his interment until April 11, 2017.
George's remains were taken to his final rest on a
horse-drawn caisson.
