Carl enlisted in the Army at Fort Leavenworth, KS on 14 October 1942.  Pvt Stone was transferred to Company C, 508th PIR on 23 October 1942.

Pfc Stone was captured in France on D-Day and held as a prisoner until liberated in 1945 from Stalag 7A
