CHARLES T. STRONG

   Charles T. Strong, formerly of Highland, Indiana died Saturday, March 6, 2004 in a Mount Pleasant, South Carolina Hospital.  Arrangement are by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Funeral Chapels, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29484-9293.
   Mr. Strong was born February 4, 1925 in Savannah, OK, the son of Charles Thomas Strong, Sr. and Minnie McIntosh Strong.  He graduated from Emerson High School, Gary, Indiana and retired from Prudential Insurance Co, Highland, Indiana.  He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, I Company.  He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #716, Gary, Indiana.  Surviving are his wife, Audrey Sides Strong of Mt. Pleasant, SC and daughter Tracy Strong Baker and her husband, Dr. John Baker of Mount Pleasant, SC.  Please omit flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charleston, SC, 3896 Leeds Avenue, Suite 101, North Charleston, SC 29405

Charles enlisted in the Army at Indianapolis, IN on 21 June 1941.

Pvt Strong was transferred from Field Force replacement Station #8 to Company I, 508th PIR on 5 April 1944.  He was appointed to the grade of Pfc on 7 August 1944.

Charles was listed as slightly wounded in action on 20 September 1944 but the wound must have been more serious than first assumed.

On 20 December 1944, still in hospital, he was transferred to the Detachment of Patients.

Pfc Strong was not discharged from the Army until 21 January 1946.  His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944,
