SYLVESTER J. SUMERACKI
Pfc Sylvester J. Sumeracki was a member of a Headquarters 1st Battalion machine gun crew led by Cpl James T. Wynn on D-Day and he was captured that same day.

Sumeracki was held as a POW until May 7 1945 when he was liberated from  Stalag IV-B which was one of the largest prisoner of war camps in Germany during World War II. The main camp was located  about 30 miles (50 km) north of Dresden.

After being processed by the U.S. Military Pfc Sumeracki  was put aboard the USS Admiral W. S. Benson (AP-120) and arrived in New York City harbor on 12 June 1945.

Sylvester died on 10 January 1995 in Troy, Michigan.
