GILBERT W. SWAM

SWAM, Gilbert W. On August 7, 2006, 83, of White Hall, MD. Husband of Edith A. (Anderson) Swam, to whom he was married 62 years; father of Carolyn S. Herman and her husband William A. of Mechanicsburg, PA and Laura Sue Swam of Parkville, MD; brother of Agertha B. Holloway of Freeland, MD; son of the late Otis M. and Laura B. (Walker) Swam; also survived by nieces and nephews. Gilbert was a rural letter carrier for over 30 years in the White Hall, MD area. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, a member and former trustee of West Liberty United Methodist Church, and a member of Charity Lodge #134 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Parkton Lodge #42 Order of the Eastern Star, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and Parkton American Legion Post #256. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at West Liberty United Methodist Church, 20400 West Liberty Rd., White Hall, MD. Interment in the church cemetery. Viewings will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with Masonic Rites at 7:45 p.m. at the J. J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 Second St., New Freedom, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Liberty United Methodist Church, 20400 West Liberty Rd., White Hall, MD, 21161.

Gilbert enlisted in the Army at Baltimore, MD on 7 January 1943.

Pvt Swam volunteered for parachutist duty and was assigned to Service Company, 508th PIR.
