Grave marker for Benjamin Swido in Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville (Rapides Parish), Louisiana.

Benjamin enlisted in the National Guard in Wilkes-Barre, PA on 18 Dec 1940 to go into training with the 109th Field Artillery Regiment, a "home regiment."

Pvt Swido was transferred from Camp Livingston, LA to Hq 1st, 508th PIR on 28 October 1942.  He apparently didn't make the cut but his departure date and designation are unknown.

On 25 January 1950, Benjamin submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.  By then head had married and had three children.  The family resided in Rapides Parish, LA but his home of record for enlistment and service was Pennsylvania. There is no indication of what unit he may have served with,
