LELAND T. SWINDEL

Grave marker for Leland T. Swindel in Shirley Cemetery, Briar (Ripley county), Missouri.

Leland enlisted in the Army at Portland, OR on 21 October 1942.

Pvt Swindel was transferred from the Reception Center, Fort Lewis, WA to the Medical Detachment, 508th PIR and was attached to Hq Hq Company.

On 20 April 1943 Pvt Swindel was sent on detached service to attend the Communications  School at Fort Benning, GA.  He was promoted to
Pfc on 2 August after returning to the company.  On 26 August he was elevated further to the grade of T/5.

On 21 July 1944 T/5  Swindel was appointed to the grade of SSgt which he held until his transfer to the 513th PIR on 18 August 1945.

His military decorations include the Bronze service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in the Normandy assault.
