Draft card for Elbert M. Tatum indicating that he probably
lived on a farm as his mailing address is RFD (Rural Free Delivery) #1 in
Pender (Willard), NC. Elbert enlisted in the Army at
Ft Bragg, NC on 9 February 1942 and volunteered for parachutist duty.
Pvt Tatum completed jump school at Ft Benning GA before he was transferred
to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 6 August 1943.
On 12 August 1943 Pvt Tatum was hospitalized and it was
not until 16 September 1943 that he was released to the rear detachment Camp
Mackall NC. He was subsequently transferred to the Station
Complement (Deml) CP Mackall NC and did not return to the regiment. |
