EDWARD A. TOLMIE
Edward A. Tolmie 1927-2006

   Edward A. Tolmie, 78, St. Joseph, Mo., died peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2006, at the local hospital after a lengthy illness.
   Born. Nov. 6, 1927, in Willowbrook, Buchanan County, Mo., he was a lifelong area resident.
   He enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 and served with the 82nd Airborne, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, which served as honor guard for Gen. Eisenhower in Frankfurt, Germany.
   While serving with the occupation forces in Stuttgart, Germany, he met and married Margarete L. Huber, Nov. 25, 1948. She survives of the home.
   He was recalled by the Army in 1950, fuel served m Korea and Japan. He was employed by Swift and Co. as a utility engineer until the plant was closed. Then he was employed as chief engineer with Heartland Health until his retirement.
   Mr. Tolmie was preceded in death by his parents, Edward James and Addie Marie (Mcintosh) Tolmie; and his sister, Marie Brim.

   He was a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church and Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359 American Legion, and served on the City of St. Joseph Boiler Examining Board. He was a gifted woodworker, enjoyed playing golf and traveling, and was an avid reader. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.   Additional survivors: two daughters, Susan B. Whitman, and her husband, John of Savannah, Mo.; and Kathy L. Scroggins, and her husband, Bill of St. Joseph; two sisters, Beulah Sanger and Nellie Busby, both of St. Joseph; and five grandchildren, Gretchen and Brice Willson, Justin Whitman, and Ryan and Bradley Scroggins; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
   Service: 10 a.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery.
   The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
   The family suggests memorial gifts to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society or charity of the donor's choice.
