JOHN N. TOMASSO

Grave marker for Joseph N. Tomasso in St Ann's Cemetery, Cranston (Providence county), Rhode Island

Joseph enlisted in the Army on 24 February 1944 and volunteered for parachutist duty.

Following basic training and jump school he was sent to England. On 27 October 1944 he was transferred from the 82nd AB Division's Replacement Depot in Leicester England to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment's Base Camp in Nottingham, England. The regiment at that time was fighting in Holland as part of the Operation Market Garden Campaign.

Pvt Tomasso was with the regiment for its next campaign in the Ardennes Forest, the Battle of the Bulge.
