Grave marker for Duane G. Tompkins in the Vestal Hills
Memorial Park, Vestal (Broome county), New York.
Duane enlisted in the Army at Binghamton, NY on 28 January 1942.
Pvt Tompkins was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne to
Service Company, 508th PIR on 29 September 1944. He was then
transferred to Company C on 21 November 1944.
During the Battle of The Bulge Pvt Tompkins was listed as
a battle casually and evacuated to a field hospital. It was not until
30 May 1945 that he was able to be transferred to another hospital for
further treatment. He did not return to the regiment and was
discharged on 27 September 1945.
He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for action
during campaign, 18 December 1944 to 20 February 1945 |
