IRA T. TONEY

Grave marker for Ira T. and Dorothy F. Toney in Center City Cemetery, Center City (Mills county), Texas,

Ira registered for the draft in Abilene, TX on 20 March 1943.

The 21 April 1944 edition of the Abilene Reporter-News. Abilene, TX, Fri, Page 28  listed Ira as one of 104 men granted s Farm Deferment, and reclassifying them as 2-C.

But, as the demand for more men grew, he was reclassified as 1-A (available for military service) and he was inducted into the Army at Fort Sam Houston, TX on 20 July 1944.  In fact, the Abilene Reporter-News, Abilene, TX edition of 1 August 1944, (Tue, Page 13] reported him as reclassified to 1-C (in service).

On 19 October 1945, Pfc Toney was transferred from the 101st Airborne Division to Company I, 508th PIR,

He was discharged on 3 July 1946,
