Ira registered for the draft in Abilene, TX on 20 March
1943.
The 21 April 1944 edition of the Abilene Reporter-News.
Abilene, TX, Fri, Page 28 listed Ira as one of 104 men granted s Farm
Deferment, and reclassifying them as 2-C.
But, as the demand for more men grew, he was reclassified
as 1-A (available for military service) and he was inducted into the Army at
Fort Sam Houston, TX on 20 July 1944. In fact, the Abilene
Reporter-News, Abilene, TX edition of 1 August 1944, (Tue, Page 13] reported
him as reclassified to 1-C (in service).
On 19 October 1945, Pfc Toney was transferred from the
101st Airborne Division to Company I, 508th PIR,
