Grave marker for David J. Tracey in Section 9, Site 110D of the Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, (Santa Fe county), New Mexico.

David enlisted on 16 Mar 1938 and served with the Headquarters Company, 2nd battalion of the 71st Infantry but was transferred to the NY National Guard with an 18-month extension to his enlistment period.

When and how he transitioned to a commissioned status is unknown but 2/Lt Tracey was an Assistant Platoon Leader in Hq Hq 508th when he was listed as MIA on D-Day.  Fortunately he rejoined the company 4 days later. He was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for his participation in the Normandy assault.
