WILLIAM HOWARD TRAUTNER, 85, of Garden City Beach, S.C., died Friday, April 15, 2005, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Born January 9, 1920, in Huntington, son of the late William and Susie Trautner. A retired contractor and World War II, U.S. Army 82nd Airborne veteran. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara "June" Trautner; brother, Charles Trautner; and sister, Rose Davis. Survived by daughters, Barbara Landsberger and Teresa Hollinger and husband Marshall of Granville, Ohio; grandchildren Renee Gosztonyi, Kristin Butler and Christopher Hollinger; great-granddaughter Haley Butler; and sisters Ruth Berry of Kentucky and Betty Russell of Tennessee. Inurnment for both Mr. and Mrs. Trautner will be 1 p.m. July 15, 2005, in Arlington National Cemetery. Inurnment marker for William H. Trautner in Columbarium Court 8-B Row 6, Site: 5 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington (Arlington county), Virginia.

William enlisted the Army at Ft Benjamin Harrison, IN on 30 October 1943.

After completion of basic training and jump school Pvt Trautner was sent to the 11th Replacement Depot in England.  He was later transferred to Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 508h.

T/5 Trautner was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead device for Holland campaign and Airborne operations.

On 3 January 1946, Sgt Trautner arrived in New York, NY on the Queen Mary from Southampton, England.
