WILLIAM J. VANSCYOC

Vault marker for William J. Vanscyoc and his wife Mary in the Tower Mausoleum of the Arlington Park Cemetery, Jacksonville (Duval), Florida

William enlisted in the Army on October 11, 1939 had reached the rank of sergeant by the time he earned his parachutist badge in May 1944. He was assigned to Service Company, 508thg PIR in November 1944 as a replacement to loses sustained in Holland.

Sgt Vanscyoc was seriously injured in action on 16 February 1945 during the battle of The Bulge and evacuated to a field hospital.  In May 1945 he was transported to a medical facility in the U.S. for further treatment.
