Joseph enlisted in the Army at Philadelphia, PA on 14
October 1942.
Pvt Vento was transferred from the Reception Center,
New Cumberland, PA to Company B, 508th PIR on 23 October 1942.
He was appointed to Pfc on 26 October 1943 and
made the jump into Normandy whe4re he was wounded on 9 June 1944.
Pfc Vento was elevated to Corporal on 21 July 1944.
His military decorations include the Bronze Service
Arrowhead device for participation in the Normandy assault. |
On 18 January 1950, Joseph submitted this application
for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus.
He was credited with 15 months of domestic duty and 23
months of foreign service. He received a bonus of $495, just $5
shy of the maximum allowable. |
