DUELL VINSON

Duell Vinson
   MOULTRIE --- Duell Vinson, 82, of 1208 Holmes Drive, died Sunday, Feb 21, 1999, at John D. Archbold Medical Center, Thomasville.
   Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Elder Buck Wood.  Burial will be in Big Ochlocknee with full military honors.
   Born Sept. 7, 1916, in Thomas county, Mr. Vinson was the son of the late E.B. [Ebenezer] and Kansas Vinson.  He [was] a retired Army veteran and a retired lab technician from the Lake City [FL] Veterans Administration hospital and a Baptist.
   Survivors include his wife, Shirley Martin Vinson of Moultrie; two sons, Ronnie Vinson of Thomasville and Mike Vinson of Lake City, FL; one daughter, Anna Vinson of Coolidge; One brother, Ellis Vinson of Thomasville; two sisters, Edna Burgess and Nezzie Falin of Meigs; and nine grandchildren.
   Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Cobb Chapel.

Duell registered for the draft ca. 1940 and enlisted in the Army at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, GA on 29 June 1941.

On 23 August 1945, T4 Vinson was transferred from the 17th Airborne Division to Company E, 508th PIR.

T4 Vinson returned to the U.S. as a member of Company C, 505th PIR aboard the Queen Mary sailing from Southampton, England.  The ship docked in New York, NY on 3 January 1946. 

Duel married Shirley Mae Martin [1923–2010] in Colquitt county, GA on 25 April 1947.

He remained in the Army, serving during the Korean conflict and was discharged as a Sergeant First Class on 31 May 1963.
