Francis enlisted in the Army at Fort Leavenworth, KS on 13 June 1944.

Pvt Wachob volunteered for parachutist duty.  His early military career is unknown but he was apparently transferred to Service Company, 508th PIR in late 1945 as he was awarded the Good Conduct meal in 1946-GO-13 issued on 13 March 1956.
