JOHN L. WAKEMAN

Grave marker for John L. Wakeman and spouse in Section D Site 3685, Willamette National Cemetery, Portland (Multnomah county), Oregon.

John enlisted in the Army at Portland, OR on 21 October 1942.

Pvt Wakeman was transferred from the 11th Replacement Depot to Company I, 508th PIR on 10 August 1944.

He was wounded in action in Belgium on 26 December 1944 and evacuated to a field hospital. On 27 March 1945, still hospitalized, Pvt Wakeman was transferred to the Detachment o Patients at that hospital  He did not return to the regiment.

John was discharged on 14 February 1946 and married Rose Olney in Multnomah, Oregon two weeks thereafter.  She now rests at his side.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart.
