Roscoe enlisted in the Army at Fort McPherson, GA on
15 October 1940.
On 16 October 1940, Pot Walker was transferred from
the 507th PIR to Company I, 508th PIR as a member of the Cadre team.
Pvt Walker was taken prisoner in France on 6 June
1944. He was liberated from Stalag 4B in 1945 and discharged
on 21 September 1945.
Curiously,
his record held by the draft board was apparently completed by him
following his discharge as the handwriting and signature are by the
same hand. Note also that the date of birth given does not match
that on his grave marker. similar discrepancies exist on other
records with year of birth as1931, 22 and 23.
It shows that his discharge was "for the
convenience of the government" and occurred at Fort McPherson,
GA, where he had enlisted in 1940.
