VAN RICHARD WALKER, SR.


   Van Richard Walker, Sr. died May 28,2006 in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. He was born on July 19,1924 in Harvey, Mississippi.

   Richard, (as he was better known) proudly dedicated 23 years to the military serving in both the 508th P.I.R. of the 82nd Airborne, United States Army, during World War II and 16 years, including the Korean War, with the United States Air Force where he retired as a Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct medals. As president of the Alamo Chapter of the WW II 82nd Airborne Association, Richard gave the Veteran's Day Address at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in Washington. D.C. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge as well as the Panama City, Florida Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf.

   Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Allean DeLancey Walker; sons, Van Richard Walker, Jr., Michael David Walker and Charles Dennis Walker; grandchildren. Travis Richard Walker, Valerie Carole Walker, Evan Landon Walker, Meredith Blair Walker Allen and Charles Michael Walker; brothers, Eugene A. Walker and John Wesley Walker. Richard was laid to rest on Wednesday, May 31.2006 in The Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Mississippi. He received full military honors.
