NEVIN E. WARNER

G-burg Father Of 11 Killed In Crash

A 45-year-old Gettysburg R D 1 man, the father of 11 children, was killed in a three- vehicle accident near Westminster Saturday night when his van truck crossed into the wrong lane of traffic and struck two other cars.
State Police said Nevin E Warner apparently fell asleep at the wheel of his 1967 van which then proceeded north in the southbound lane of Route 97, struck an oncoming car, slid into a ditch and overturned
Carroll County (Md.) Medical Examiner Dr W. G. Speicher attributed death to a fractured skull and multiple lacerations
Also slightly injured in the crash were Warner’s son, Jerry S Warner, 11, and Nancy L. Greene, 29, of Ellicott City, Md . although neither was admitted to Carroll County Hospital.
According to police, Warner's van became northbound in the southbound lane on a curve. Leslie Greene, husband of the woman who was injured, was southbound in a 1969 sedan, rounded the curve and swerved into the northbound lane to avoid Warner’s vehicle. But he lost control of his car and struck a guard rail
A second southbound vehicle, driven by Roger A. Fountain, no address listed, also attempted to avoid Warner’s van but was struck on the right front and side. Fountain was not injured.
Warner was a produce dealer. He was returning from a trip to Washington, D.C. at the time of the accident, police said.
He served as a parachutist during World War II.
Warner was a member of St. Mary Lutheran Church, Silver Run, Md., and Men’s Bible Class of St James Lutheran Church Sunday school, Gettysburg.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Reta M. Crouse Warner, parents. Clarence R. and Ruth Baumgardner Warner, Littlestown R.D. 1; 11 children, Gary, Rodney, Pamela, Randy, Douglas, Jeffrey, Jerry, Priscilla, Paula, Todd, and Russell Warner, all at home, and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Evelyn Wantz, Mrs. Doris Zumbrum and Mrs. Mildred Mays. Hanover; Donald Warner, Westminster, and Glenn Warner, Marysville, Calif.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Little funeral home, Littlestown. Officiating will be the Rev. Roland A. Ries of St. Mary Church and the Rev. Edward E. Keyser, co-pastor of St. James Church.
Burial will be in National Cemetery, Gettysburg. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Fund.
