COL SHIELDS WARREN JR
 March 21 1916 January 26 1994

   CARY — Col Warren graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1939 He served as a battalion commander with the 508th Parachute Infantry 82nd Airborne Div from D-Day until the cessation of hostilities in the European Theater of Operations. He was a recipient of the Silver Star, Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters and two Purple Hearts.
   After retirement from the Army Col Warren established a business designing and building aluminum spars for sailing vessels.
   Col Warren, the victim of an automobile accident, had resided at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh since 1990.
   A funeral service will be held 11 am Wednesday, February 2 at Arlington National Cemetery.
   He is survived by his wife Patricia Field Warren of Cary, his daughters Linda Scadden of Cary and Kelsey Warren of Alexandria Va.; sons Shields Warren Ill of Herndon Va., and Robert Warren of Marietta Ga. and eight grandchildren.
