EMMANUEL WEBB
Emmanuel Webb, 63, of RD 2, Box 182, Pittston Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday in General Hospital.
   Born In Dupont, he was a son of the late Bartlow and Pearl Fassett Webb and had been a resident of Bear Creek Township most of his life. He attended township schools and was employed as a miner by Franklin Coal Company, South Wilkes-Barre for many years. He was a member and former board member of Ronald Linker Post 58, American Legion Bear Creek Township.
   Mr. Webb was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 508th Parachute Infantry in the European Theatre.
   Surviving are his wife, the former Lois Miller; daughters, Mrs. Bonnie Coopey, Miss Lois Webb, Mrs. Jennie Burakiewicz and Miss Dawn Webb, all of Bear; brother, Jasper Webb, Bear Creek; sisters, Mrs. Margaret O'Day, Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Verna Schatzel and Mrs. Pearl Hrabousky, Bear Creek; six grandchildren.
   Funeral will be Saturday at 10 from H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, 451 N. Main St., with interment in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Emmanuel registered for the draft ca. 1939 and was inducted into the Army on 23 February 1943.

Pfc Webb was transferred from 82nd Airborne Division Leicester, England on 26 August 44 to Service Company, 508th PIR.

He did not immediately join the company as he was at that time on Detached Service with the 407th  Airborne Quartermaster Company.  He reported to the 508th on 20 February 1945.]

On 17 March 12945 he was sent on Detached Service with the IX Troop Carrier Command for training as a  Pathfinder.  He returned to the company on 31 March.

Emmanuel was discharged on 4 February 1946 at the Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, PA.

 

  On 19 January 1950, Emmanuel submitted this application for the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans bonus.  He was credited with 17 months of domestic duty and 18 months of foreign service resulting in a $440 bonus award.
