CECIL M. WESTMORELAND

Grave marker for Cecil M. Westmoreland in the Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta (Love county), Oklahoma.

 

Cecil registered for the draft in Santa Paula, Ventura, CA on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Los Angeles, CA on 17 December 1943. 

On 29 September 1944, Pvt Westmoreland was transferred to Service Company from Hq 82d A/B Div, APO 469,  He served in both Service Company and Company "I".

Pvt Westmoreland was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944. 

Cecil was wounded in action on 11 January, 1945 and returned to duty 4 weeks later.  He received the Purple Heart medal as a consequence of that wound.

Pfc Westmoreland arrived in New York, NY from Southampton, England aboard the Queen Mary on 3 January 1946.
