John served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from
Sept. 16, 1948, to Sept. 15, 1949, and then in the Army from Jan. 15,
1951, to Jan. 14, 1954. While in the service he was a member of the 82nd
Airborne Division.
John was predeceased by his wife Dorothy; and three
brothers, Lyman, Robert and Richard Whipple; and a sister, Dorothy
Carlson. |

to 1954.
Following his two service careers he
was, at least for a time, employed as a locomotive fireman for the
Pennsylvania Railroad. |
