Robert B. White
Robert B. “Bob” White, 79,
of St. Albans, passed away March 19, 2006, at Hubbard Hospice House.
He was a lifelong resident
of St. Albans. He was a member of Carpenter's Local #1207 in Charleston
and had worked as a carpenter for various construction companies in the
Kanawha Valley. He loved to hunt and fish.
Bob was an Army veteran of
World War II, having been a combat paratrooper. He received the Purple
Heart with three clusters, a Bronze Star with a “V” device for valor, a
Bronze Star for Meritorious achievement in ground combat and a Combat's
Infantryman's Badge. He was very active and a trustee in the W.Va.
All-Airborne Chapter, 82nd Airborne Division Association, 508 PIR 82nd
ABN. He was a member of the 508th Infantry Association, VFW Post #8129 and
American Legion Post #73.
Bob is survived by his wife,
Bettie Lee White; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Sam Shivel of
Ashland, Ky.; two sisters, Freda Sloan of South Charleston and Betty
Dooley of St. Albans; grandson and his wife, Robert and Barbara Shivel of
Ashland, Ky.; granddaughter, Sandi Dietrich of Ashland, Ky.; and four
great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Marisa Dietrich and Robby and Sarah
Shivel, all of Ashland, Ky.
Service will be 11 a.m.
Wednesday, March 22, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B St., St.
Albans. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans, with
military graveside rites.
There will be a gathering of
family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers,
donations may be sent to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Dr.,
Charleston, WV 25311.
