Pvt Whitley was transferred from the 11th Reinforcement Depot to Company F, 508th PIR on 4 March 1945.

On 9 Nov 1945, Pfc Whitley was Honorably Discharged to re-enlist in the Regular Army for a three-year period.

On 13 November 1945 he was placed on TDY with the 6903rd Reinforcement Battalion, Le Havre, France, probably to facilitate his return to the U.S.

Unfortunately, on 17 December 1945, while home on leave, he was "killed instantly" in an automobile accident about 7 miles west of Weatherford (Parker), TX which was not far from his family's home. His occupation was listed on the death certificate (above) as "soldier."
