Funeral services for Zenas Oreum “Z. O.” Williamson, 91, of
Roanoke will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Benefield
Funeral Chapel with Dr. Hughey Reynolds and Rev. Josh Hickman officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 27 before services begin.
Mr. Williamson passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Bill
Nichols States Veterans Home in Alexander City, Alabama.
Survivors include his wife, Frances McDaniel Williamson of
Roanoke; three sons, Zenas O. Williamson, Jr., of Marietta, GA, Dr. and Mrs.
David Kelley Williamson of Birmingham, and Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Richard
Williamson of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Mrs. Melinda Jeter Lipham
(husband, Tommy) of Wedowee and Mrs. Ingrid Jeter Webb (husband, Michael) of
Madison, AL; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, Mr.
Preston Williamson of Marietta, GA; Ms. Donna Williamson and Ms. Mona
Williamson; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Williamson’s grandchildren, Lemont
Herring, Jacky Hammonds, Carl Battles, Donnie Knight, and Trae Strain.
A lifelong Alabama resident, Mr. Williamson was born in
Wedowee on July 25, 1925, the son of James Albert and Mamie Lee Craven
Williamson of the Swagg Community. He was a member of the First United
Methodist Church of Wedowee and was retired from Liberty National Insurance
Company.
Mr. Williamson was a veteran of World War II and served in
the United States Army with honor. He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather, and father to all. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and
gardening. Mr. Williamson was preceded in death by his parents; three
sisters; two brothers; and wife, Katherine.

Alabama.
Although not engraved on the stone as yet when this photo
was taken, Zenus died on 25 June 2017.
Zenas signed up for the draft Wedowee, AL on 26 July
1943 and was inducted into the Army at Fort McClellan, AL on 26
July 1944.
Pvt Williamson was transferred from the 51st
Reinforcement Battalion to Company A, 508th on 23 April 1945 and served
in Frankfurt, Germany as part of the Honor Guard. |
