WILLIAM G. WILLOUGHBY

William “Will” George Willoughby Major (Ret), 215 Uffelman Drive Clarksville died September 2nd, 2012.

He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and in the United States Army during World War II, and did service during the Korean and Vietnam era.

Will Willoughby also retired from the Civil Service while employed with the Facilities Engineering Group at Fort Campbell Kentucky.

Mr. Willoughby is survived by his wife of 57 years Elizabeth Ann Willoughby; son Willie Willoughby and wife Rita of Clarksville; son Robert Willoughby and wife Carol of Kennesaw [GA]; and grandson Jerred Willoughby and wife Julie, Clinton, and Aleksandrs.

While his initial place of enlistment is not know, SSgt Willoughby re-enlisted at Fort Bragg, NC on 15 December 1945.

Mr. Willoughby joined HQ/2nd of the 508th PIR in late 1945 and was with the regiment until deactivation in 1946. He was later commissioned.

In his own words: ""I was with the 508th, Hq 2nd in Frankfurt [from] late '45 thru deactivation in '46."

"My other airborne assignments were 82 Abn (325/504) 47- 48 and 53-55 (504), Airborne Airmobility Dept, Ft Benning 57-60, 101 Airborne 64-66 (Gen Staff). I retired as a Major."

He married Elizabeth Ann Miller in Franklin, Tennessee on 20 august 1955.

 William was a member of Family and Friends of the 508th PIR Association.
