MATRONA J. WOOD

Grave marker for Matrona J. Wood in Plot A-454-1&2, National Memorial Park, Falls Church (Fairfax county), Virginia.

Matrona enlisted in the Army at Charlottesville, VA on 25 February 1943.

On 26 September 1944, Pvt Wood was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division, Leicester, England to Service Company, 508th PIR.  He was subsequently transferred to Hq Hq where he was promoted to Pfc on 4 January 1945.

Pfc Wood was transferred in grade to the 505th PIR on 20 October 1945, perhaps to join the regimen on a troop ship heading home.

His military decorations include the Combat Infantryman Badge awarded for action during campaign, 18 December 1944 to 20 February 1945, effective 17 February 1945
