HUGH N. WOODY

Grave marker for Hugh N. Woody in Plot 3, Site 344, Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver (Denver county), Colorado.

 

Hugh registered for the draft in Ottumwa, IA on 22 December 1941 and was inducted into the Army at Camp Dodge, IA on 10 November 1942.

Pvt Woody was transferred to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 1 August 1944.

On 14 March 1945, the Carroll Daily Times Herald. Carroll, Iowa listed as Pfc Woody as one of many local men wounded in the European area and mentioned that he was from Ottumwa.

Pfc Woody was transferred in grade to the 513th PIR, 17th Airborne Division on 18 August 1945.

He was discharged on 21 September 1945.

 

On 16 May 1949, Hugh submitted this application for the Iowa WWII Veterans Bonus. He was credited with 34 months of domestic duty and 14 months of foreign service for a total of $375 bonus award.
