WILLIAM L. WORLEY

Grave marker for William L. Worley in Highland Cemetery, Colville (Stevens county), Washington.

William enlisted in the Army at Spokane, WA on 28 November 1942.

Pvt Worley was transferred from Camp Toccoa, GA to Hq 3rd, 508th PIR on 17 December 1942.  He was appointed. to the grade of Pfc on 2 March 1943.

Pfc Worley was transferred in grade to the 542nd Parachute Infantry on 25 November 1943.

However, during the following month the 542nd was decimated by orders to provide 100 paratroopers to the Pacific Theatre and 1,000 to the ETO.  Pfc Worley was possibly caught up in either of these scenarios.

He may have seen combat as there appears to be a single jump star engraved on the likeness of the parachutist badge included on the grave stone.

Whether that is true, and what the circumstances of his death in Spokane on 18 July 1944 were are both unknown
