Bud Dalton Yancy entered Life Aug. 12, 2006.
The son of the late George W. and Sylvia (nee: Hanselman) Yancy was born June 3, 1922, in the township of Stephenson, Marinette County, Wis.
He attended schools in Neenah and Oshkosh, Wis.
At the ago of 22 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving our country in B Company, 508th
Parachute Infantry, 82nd Division, in Frankfurt Germany. He received an honorable discharge on Nov. 17, 1946, with the rank of Private First Class.
After his discharge he attended Oshkosh Business College graduating with a decree in Advanced Accounting. He worked for H.C. Dirkson & Son, Co. in Oshkosh, Wis. for nine years.
In 1952 he met Velma M. Kasten, the love of his life. On Oct. 25, 1952, they married at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gillett, Wis. After living in Oshkosh for seven years, they moved to Gillett and established Yancy's Restaurant which they operated for 34 years.
Bud was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church from 1959 until his death. He was active and enjoyed membership in the Krause-Simpson American Legion Post 300, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, the Town of Gillett Volunteer Fire Department (until his health forced his retirement), the Gillett Civic Club and the Travelers Protective Association of America. In 1994, Bud and Velma were Grand Marshals of the Oconto County Independence Day Celebration in Gillett.
Survivors include Velma, his wife of nearly 54 years; a daughter, Leila (William) Wells, Plymouth; and five sons, John (Jill), Kewaskum; Paul (Deborah), Kiel; David (Sheryl), De Pere; Todd (special friend, Leslie), Kelly Lake; and Jason (Carla), Janesville. Also surviving are ten granddaughters, Krista, Dana, Hannah, Cara, Naomi, Meredith, Sophia, Evelyn, Samantha, and Jacqueline; and five grandsons, Brad, (fiancée, Carrie), Garrett, Harris, Matthew, and Maxwell; two step-grandchildren, Terrie (fiancé, Roger) and Brandon; one great-granddaughter, Dakota, and one step-great-grandson, Reed; one brother-in-law, C. "Mike" Goerlitz and one sister-in-law, Mary, both of Oshkosh.
Bud was preceded in death by his son, Troy; sister, Bernice Goerlitz; and brother, George Yancy.
Family and friends may visit at the Kuehl Funeral Home in Gillett from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, until time of service at 11 a.m. at Faith United Lutheran Church, Pulcifer, Wis.
Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery site on County Hwy. H, Gillett, Wis.
Memorial suggestions of the family are Faith United Lutheran Church, Camp Luther, and the Gillett Area Ambulance Service.
