RICHARD S. ZALMANOWSKI

Crypt marker for Richard S. Zalmanowski in Saint Hedwig Cemetery, Dearborn Heights (Wayne county), Michigan.

Richard enlisted in the Army on 26 March 1943 and was assigned to Company C, 508th PIR.

On 17 June 1944 Pvt Zalmanowski was injured in action and evacuated to a field hospital.  He was able to return to duty on 30 July 1944.

He was wounded a second time in Belgium on 3 January 1945 but did not return to the regiment.  He was discharged on 13 December 1945.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Service Arrowhead device awarded for participation in Normandy assault.
