The following transcriptions are of activity
reports (see example at right)
submitted by Hq 2nd and includes entries, where appropriate, for its subordinate companies, D, E and F.
A portion of the first date is missing. Each
report runs from 2400 hours (midnight) of one day to 2400 hours of the next,
a period of 24 hours. The reports document significant events such as:
messages sent and received; the visitations of significant personnel and the
relocation of units, their engagements, etc..
Activity Reports are submitted at the
battalion level and are not the same as Morning
Reports by which each company (including the headquarters companies) documented changes in status for personnel
(individually and by unit strength), as well as changes in position, etc.
for the company.
These Activity Report specimens are the only
ones that we have seen to date. Irv Shanley believes that they were prepared
by Battalion Sgt Major Julian Konwerski of Ansonia, CT.
Konwerski was a member of the Mortar Platoon
at Camp Blanding and also the Battalion Clerk. He later became Battalion Sgt Major (Tech Sgt) when Joseph R. Anderson
applied for and
was granted a commission as 2nd Lieutenant just prior to the Holland
invasion.
Julian attended the 508th's Minnesota reunion
in 1990 and brought these examples with him. |
