  | 508TH CADRE ASSIGNED FROM 1ST PARACHUTE INFANTRY
  BRIGADE |
  | On October 16, 1942 Special Order
18 written by the HQ, First Parachute Infantry Brigade, Fort Benning, GA
assigned the first men to the 508th as Cadre personnel, the seeds that would
grow the regiment. These 327 officers and enlisted men were sufficient
staff to populate the 1st Battalion as well as to place officers and senior
NCO's at the head of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions.  Once the new regiment
  was established at Camp
Blanding they began to sift through the volunteers that would soon arrive
in order to find another 1,800 or so to flesh out all three battalions. A rendition of that order set
  follows. |
