Those seven days brought seemingly incessant rain as the 508th conducted its assigned mission of opposing the 101st Airborne Division.  It was a grueling muddy hell that sapped the strength of the men as they fought by day and then marched to new locations every night only to re-engage the "enemy" the next day.

When the exercise ended the 508th retuned to Camp Mackall in a convoy of trucks, the same method that had been employed to take them to Cheraw a week earlier.

Camp Croft Today

Little remains of the former Camp Croft, which closed in January 1946 and was sold in large parcels to industries, residential developers, former land owners, and the state of SC. Over 7,000 acres of the maneuver area and firing ranges is now Croft State Natural Area.
