Barkston Heath
about 25 miles east of Nottingham, was the field where Hq 3rd staged a practice jump on 6-7 April 1944.
Takeoff was 2337 hrs and the sticks jumped at 0237 hrs, 3 miles north of Flawborough, less than 5 miles away.  [Little did they know that the timing would prepare them for Normandy]
The men set up a defensive area until the exercise ended at 0930 hrs.
They walked 12 miles and then entrucked..  By 1730 that evening they had returned to Wollaton.
