PRESIDENTIAL VISIT (July 26, 1945)

Truman Flies To Frankfurt
FRANKFURT-ON-THE-MAIN, July 26 -- (AP -- President Truman arrived here today to inspect American troops and have lunch with Gen. Eisenhower, after a 90-minute flight from Potsdam.
The President took off from the Gatow Airport, and flew at 6,000 feet all the way.
Mr. Truman arrived at the Eschborne Army Airport soon after 9:30 a.m., a few minutes behind Secretary Byrnes, who came on another plane.
The President began a round of inspection with a review of an honor guard made up from the 508th Parachute Troop Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division.

Army One?
puny and slow compared to the 747 used in today's presidential fleet, this C-54 was state-of-the-art in 1945
