When the regiment was stationed in Camp Mackall in 1943, 1st Sgt
Kenneth M. Schroeder fell in love with a beautiful young girl named Dee
Dee,
who lived in nearby Pinehurst, NC. He told his buddies that he was
going to marry her after the war and he was true to his word.
Ken and Dee Dee were married in 1946 and they had two children.
Ken became a golf enthusiast and was the Starter at the famous Pinehurst
Golf Course for many years. He passed away in 1998. |
