Dated 24 September 1946, not long prior to the
regiment's deactivation, Company E issued this memorandum mandating that
all platoon sergeants ensure the listed field training equipment was in
the hands of every man.
Since the war in the Pacific had ended with VJ Day more than a year
earlier, it is unclear what prompted this note ... other than simple
military readiness.Whatever the case, each
enlisted man was required to have the following:
Combat suit and boots, helmet
Combat pack including suspenders and
a. Raincoat
b. Undershirt, drawers, socks and handkerchief
c. Toilet articles
d. Tent pole, pins and ropes
e. Mess kit complete
f. Patches and oil
Pistol belt including
a. Entrenching tool on outside of pack
b. First aid packet -- middle of pack
c. Canteen on right fourth grommet
d. Knife M-1 on right of belt on first grommet
e. Bayonet on outside of pack on left |
