COL LINDQUIST DECLARES A HOLIDAY

HEADQUARTERS 508TH PARACHUTE INFANTRY
Office of the Regimental Commander

REL/sme
Camp Mackall N.C.
26 October 1943

MEMORANDUM TO: All Members, 508th Parachute Infantry

     1.  This regiment successfully completed another training phase  recently when, at the end of the sixth maneuver phase of the Tennessee maneuvers, it was returned to its home station.  We all learned much and I believe we are better able to perform the task that awaits us.  I desire to commend and congratulate all ranks on their performance.

   2.  I was impressed and encouraged by the enthusiasm and esprit, the ability to withstand hardships and still continue on without letting down, and the outstanding results attained during the period we were in the field.  Major General Paul D. Ranson, Commanding General of the 90th Division to which we were attached for the sixth and final phase, stated at the 2nd Army critique of that phase: "I was impressed with the ability, control at night, and spirit of the 508th Parachute infantry."

     3.  It is a pleasure for me to announce that I have been informed by a higher headquarters that the regiment has successfully passed the maneuver test.  In recognition of the fine work of all members of the regiment during the past maneuvers, the period October 28th through October 30th inclusive is herby declared a holiday period, except for the necessary guard and fatigue.
