and Mrs. John Berner spent last week-end in Jackson with their son,
Corporal James C. Berner. Cpl. Berner was home from Ft.
Benning, Ga., and spent a ten-day furlough with his family in
Jackson. He left Friday for Camp McCann [sic], N. C.
Richard
B. McAndrew is passing a fourteen-day leave at the home his parents.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward McAndrew. He has recently enlisted in the Army
and has been assigned to the 508th Parachute Troop, Infantry.

Clifton S. Ducote,
son of Mrs. Benjamin L. Ducote of Cottonport, is now a member of the
508th Parachute Infantry and is in combat training at Camp Mackall
N. C.
He joined the Army in October, 1942 and won his wings as a United
States parachutist on March 6, 1943. Before entering the service he
studied at Cottonport high school and later worked for J. A. Harper,
contractor, at Crowville, Miss.
The 508th. Parachute regiment, made up of trained jumpers, recently
returned to camp from airborne maneuvers in the field. The
commanding general, impressed by its "excellent showing." commended
"the spirit and discipline shown at all times by the men, in spite
of inclement weather, fatigue, loss of sleep and hunger." The 508th
is commanded by Colonel Roy E. Lindquist, 36, West Point Class of 30
and a pioneer parachutist.
